Ooh La La, it must be Lalique!

What does the name Lalique mean to you? It probably conjures images of beautiful French glass, but did you know René Lalique was a highly regarded jewellery designer of the late 19th century specialising in the naturalistic aesthetic of the Art Nouveau period. It is rare to see Lalique's original jewellery from this period come up for sale at auction, it would be a dream of mine to handle such a piece but most are housed in museums and private collections, and when they do sell can command tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of pounds!

At a recent auction at the wonderful Stamford Auction Rooms, I had the pleasure of selling some original Lalique glass from the Art Deco period. Highlights included a beautiful hand mirror, decorated with two birds or 'Deux Oiseaux' which sold for £420.
